A home for eldest & only daughters of BIPOC families to be witnessed, resourced, and celebrated.

About Us

The Eldest Daughters Collective (EDC) is a peer support space for self‑identified eldest or only daughters of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color families. We center the lived realities, hopes, dreams, grief, and legendary resilience of eldest daughters, those who so often hold it down for everyone else.

We gather to practice rest, receive care, learn boundary skills, swap resources, laugh, grieve, and imagine new ways of being in relationship without carrying the whole load alone.

Who Membership is for

This space is for you if all of the following are true:

  • You are 18+.

  • You identify as an eldest or only daughter in your family system (we include trans, nonbinary, gender‑expansive people who relate to the eldest daughter role; see FAQ).

  • You are Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color.

  • You have been a parentified child, holding significant emotional, financial, caretaking, or spiritual labor for your family, and want a community that sees and honors that experience.

We define “eldest daughter” by responsibility, not solely by birth order.

Snapshot of Community Agreements

  • Consent & Check-Ins – Share from lived experience; ask before giving advice.

  • Care for Capacity – Step in, step back. Rest is participation.

  • Confidentiality – What’s shared here stays here (with clear safety exceptions).

  • No Extraction – Eldest daughters deserve reciprocity.

  • Liberatory Practice – We name systems, not individuals, as the root of harm. We center QTBIPOC, disabled, immigrant, and working-class voices.

FAQs

  • I’m not the oldest by age. Can I still join?

    • While most of us are eldest or only daughters by birth order, we also welcome folks who stepped into the role of the eldest. If you’ve been the one carrying emotional, financial, or spiritual labor for your family, this space is for you.

  • I’m trans, nonbinary, or gender-expansive. Can I be part of this community?

    • Absolutely! If you relate to the experience of being the eldest or only daughter in your family and are Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color, you are welcome here. We affirm and celebrate all gender identities and expressions, and in fact, have gender-expansive folks in our leadership team and community.

  • Is this the same as a therapy group?

    • No. This is a peer support and collective wisdom space, not a clinical therapy group. While healing happens here, we do not and can not offer crisis support or clinical mental health services.

  • Do I need to attend every event to stay a member?

    • Come as you are and when you can! We know life is full. You’ll still receive updates, invitations, and resources even if you miss a gathering. We find that attending as many meetings as possible helps build deeper relationships and community, so we encourage you to come as you are and to as many as possible!

  • I don’t live in the U.S. Can I still join?

    • Yes. We are building a community with national and global reach. Most of our gatherings are virtual, and we welcome members from different countries, languages, and diasporas.

  • Can I volunteer or help lead something in the Collective?

    • Yes. We’re building this together, and there are many ways to contribute. From helping with events or social media to co-facilitating peer spaces or supporting outreach, we welcome members who want to step into leadership. Founding Members will also have early access to volunteer roles, trainings, and advisory opportunities. Let us know you're interested when you fill out your intake form.

  • Can I change or cancel my membership tier?

  • Do you offer scholarships or sliding scale options?
